Time Out - Chapter 2:
Byron the Crack Head Lawyer

the back story…

Note: If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it’s a duck.

I had come to the realization that it was over between Martin and I. He was not interested in being in a monogamous relationship – he just wasn’t willing to give up his other girlfriends. It was time for me to move on. We had The Talk a few days prior and I flat out asked him if he ever wanted to get married. He told me he wasn’t ready to make that kind of commitment. As my voice began to tremble I simply replied”ok” and hung up the phone. I picked my last day to cry…it was a Tuesday.

The following Thursday my girlfriend Marie called from Chicago telling me about a guy she wanted me to meet. She had recently moved there and was newly single. She had been out on the town every night putting her stamp on the city. Before she moved there, her friend Bridgette put her in contact with this guy named Byron. He was in his late thirties; Ivy League educated, and recently launched his own law practice. Bridgette assured Marie that he would take good care of her and show her around the city once she arrived. So when Marie invited me for the weekend I was all over it. There was no reason for me to be sitting around moping over a fifty year-old guy. I went online, purchased a ticket and was off to the windy city to see if I could get blown away. ..
